Popularization
In Dubrovnik, two cycles of workshops (with different content) on the Dubrovnik idiom were held for primary school students in May and in October, supported by and hosted in the Dubrovnik Libraries. A text from the popular comedy Mare Fjočica by Jozo Lovrić Jadrijevo was offered. The workshops were designed by Dr. Ivana Lovrić Jović, conducted by Nikolina Kuraica, MA in Croatian Language Education, and performed on stage by Croatian language teacher and amateur actress Tajana Martić.
These workshops aim to raise awareness of the Dubrovnik idiom by encouraging students to identify its unique vocabulary, phonology, and syntax. By analyzing historical and contemporary texts, students will explore the evolution of their idiom — from the 16th and 17th centuries, a period that shaped the standardization of Croatian and earned the idiom its status as protected intangible heritage, to the modern form used today.
